• The Abell Foundation  
  The Abell Foundation's mission is to effect positive change on societal problems in the Baltimore area, with a strong focus on programs promoting educational reform, job creation and tourism; strengthening families; reducing drug addiction; and alleviating hunger and homelessness. The Foundation makes grants exclusively to organizations located in the state of Maryland.

• Abell-Hanger Foundation - Texas
  The Foundation seeks to fund organizations with projects "for the public welfare, including, but not limited to, higher education, cultural activities, health services, youth programs and the handicapped."
   

• Able Trust   
  The Trust supports individuals non-profit vocational rehabilitation programs throughout Florida with fund-raising, grant making and public awareness of disability issues.

• The Abney Foundation  South Carolina 
  The mission of The Abney Foundation is to make grants for innovative and  relative projects, and to programs which are responsive to changing community needs in the areas of education, health, social service and cultural affairs. Our primary focus is placed on higher education.
   

• The Francis L. Abreu Charitable Trust   
  The F.L. Abreu Charitable Trust benefits others by providing grants to arts and cultural programs, education, health associations, human services and children and youth services primarily in the metro Atlanta area.
   

• Ace Hardware Community Involvement 
  Coast to coast, Ace retailers are proud to be involved in the communities where they do business. • Achelis Foundation   
  The Achelis Foundation concentrates its grant program in the greater New York City area. This includes youth, rehabilitation, biomedical research, child welfare, science education, major cultural institutions, health and hospitals, social services, alcohol and drug abuse, father absence and responsible fatherhood, and education (including charter schools, public school reform, and parental school choice). Other interests include literacy, volunteerism, homelessness, entrepreneurship and economic development, environment (science education and land conservation), welfare reform, and job training with employment in the private business sector.

• The Thomas C. Ackerman Foundation   
  The Board of Directors consider for grant support those qualified organizations in the San Diego Metropolitan Area in which Mr. Ackerman expressed an interest during his lifetime or which address needs or provide programs which were  of concern or interest to him. Mr. Ackerman was always interested in education, programs for the prevention of child abuse and cruelty to animals, the local arts, the educational institutions which he attended, and his church. He was also interested in the welfare of senior citizens.

• The Acorn Foundation    
  The Acorn Foundation is particularly interested in community-based projects which: remedy pollution from industrial, chemical and nuclear sources, and limit new pollution from these and other sources; advocate for environmental justice; and preserve and restore habitats that support biological diversity.

• A.C. Ratshesky Foundation - Greater Boston area 
  The A.C. Ratshesky Foundation gives priority to three broad program areas: Human Services, Education /Training/ Advocacy and Arts/Culture. Based on the original declaration of trust, support for programs that service disadvantaged Jewish populations or Jewish cultural institutions are also of special interest.

• The African Development Foundation    
  The African Development Foundation (ADF) is the principal agency of the U. S. Government that supports community-based, self-help initiatives that alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development in Africa.

• Aga Khan Foundation   
  Promotes social development through philanthropic activities in the developing world. AKF is non-communal and is committed by charter to assisting in the struggle against hunger, disease and illiteracy throughout the world. • The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation®

• Agrilink Foods: Philanthropy and Community Service (Now Birds Eye Foods) - Updated
  The Birds Eye Foods Foundation provides grants to not-for-profit organizations operating in communities where Birds Eye Foods has facilities, or where members are located. Primary giving areas include health, community services, education, youth, agricultural research and cultural programs.

• Ahearn Foundation:  New York 
  The Ahearn Foundation has focused its efforts on capital items that stress health and education needs. While Broome Community College, Lourdes Hospital and United Health Services have received the greatest amount of support from the Foundation, nearly fifty different nonprofit organizations within Broome County have received grants. The smallest grant awarded by the Foundation has been $1,000; the largest, $20,000.

• The Ahrens Foundation - Iowa - Updated
  Grant applicants will be non-profit organizations in Iowa who are seeking support for specific projects. Larger grant requests will receive maximum consideration if the grant funds are "seed" money to kick off other community support or are to be utilized as matching funds.

• A. J. Fletcher Foundation - North Carolina
  Although its primary focus has traditionally been on education, the Foundation Board will consider requests from agencies and organizations addressing a wide variety of social issues and charitable endeavors.

• Akron Community Foundation    
  The unrestricted fund of Akron Community Foundation provides grants to qualified nonprofit 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organizations operating programs in Summit County, Ohio.

• Alaska Conservation Foundation
  ACF has awarded nearly $10 million in grants. In a state of 600,000 residents with less than 1% privately owned land, ACF remains the only significant environmental philanthropy in Alaska.

• Alaska Humanities Forum

• Albertson's Community Relations

• Albion Community Foundation

• Albuquerque Community Foundation - New Mexico
  Areas of Interest: Arts and culture, children and youth education, health and human services, and environmental and historic preservation. Eligible organizations must serve the Albuquerque community.

• Alcoholic Beverage Medical Research Foundation
  Supports research on the effects of alcohol on health, behavior and prevention of alcohol-related problems.

• Alger Regional Community Foundation - Michigan
  The Foundation welcomes grant requests from organizations in Alger County having 501(c)(3) status. Grants are made in the areas of advancing philanthropy, arts and the humanities, community services, education, conservation and the environment, health, and human and social services

  A nonprofit organization dedicated to burn prevention and survivor assistance

• Allegheny Foundation 
  The Allegheny Foundation concentrates its giving in the Western Pennsylvania area and confines most of its grant awards to programs for historic preservation, civic development and education. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals.

• The Allen Foundation 
  Grants are strictly limited under the terms of the charter to projects that benefit programs for human nutrition in the areas of education, training, and research.

• Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundations - Washington 
  The Foundation funds projects in whole or in part in the areas of education, environmental research, youth services, social services, and aid to the disabled and disadvantaged.

• Paul G. Allen Foundation for Medical Research - Washington 
  The purpose of the Bellevue, Washington-based Paul G. Allen Foundation for Medical Research is to "promote innovative medical research in a variety of fields, including biochemistry, biomedical engineering, virology, immunology, cell and molecular biology, pharmacology and genetics."

• Allen Foundation for the Arts - Washington 
  The Foundation, which is especially interested in the performing and visual arts, also supports entities that sustain artists and art organizations.

• Paul G. Allen Forest Protection Foundation  - Washington 
  The purpose of the Bellevue, Washington-based Paul G. Allen Forest Protection Foundation is to assist in "the acquisition and conservation of forest land in order to preserve needed wildlife habitat and, where possible, to provide public recreational access."

• Paul G. Allen Virtual Education Foundation  - Washington 
  The Foundation is especially interested in projects that "explore ways to achieve cost-effective production of innovative digital content for online learning."

• Alliance Healthcare Foundation 
  The Alliance Healthcare Foundation administers an endowment of approximately $100 million and awards an average of $5 million in program grants annually in one of following six areas: Restricted Access to Healthcare, Communicable Diseases, Substance Abuse, Mental Health. The Foundation ONLY funds within the State of California. 75% of Foundation dollars are granted within San Diego County; 25% are granted within the State of California.

• Allstate Foundation
  The Foundation works in concert with Allstate by aligning with the company's major focus areas: tolerance, inclusion and diversity, safe and vital communities and economic empowerment. Through a corporate committee and field office grant committees, The Foundation funds more than 1,000 programs each year and, in 2001, contributed $7.1 million to communities across the country.

• All Stars Helping Kids
  The goal of All Stars Helping Kids is to raise money and provide desperately needed funds for youth organizations in the Bay Area. We focus on encouraging these innovative programs to benefit and improve the lives of children with programs that will be beneficial to them and our surrounding communities now and in the future.

• The Herb Alpert Foundation - California
  The majority of their funding is directed toward the youngest members of American society, "in hopes that the future for them, and for the world, can be improved by an earlier intervention." The foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.

• Asian Cultural Council
  A foundation supporting cultural exchange in the visual and performing arts between the United States and the countries of Asia.

• Jenifer Altman Foundation
  Provides information about the Jenifer Altman Foundation, the Mitchell Kapor Foundation, and the StarFire Fund. The foundations interests are dedicated to the vision of a socially just and ecologically sustainable future through program interests in environmental health, mind-body health and improved child care.

• Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los .Angeles
  A private non-profit institution endowed with Southern California's share of the surplus funds generated by the 1984 Games. The Foundation awards grants to youth sport organizations within the eight southern counties of Southern California.

• ARISE Foundation -  Research
  ARISE is a nonprofit educational foundation established in 1986, by the husband and wife team of Susan and Edmund F. Benson.
